Responsibilities of a mother

Destressing

There are many times in life where a mother compromises to give her children the comfort and stability they need. It becomes very daunting and stressful for a mother to cope with work and home, that is when the child's father needs to lend a hand, be it in taking care of the child or helping his wife with household work.

To destress a mother could opt for yoga or swimming or dance as a routine, involving kids in such activities is not only healthy but also gives them a reason to be excited about doing a physical activity. Sitting with your child along with a good book also not only bonds each other but also gives you both the opportunity to learn and understand how important and valuable your time together is. Weekend out with girls could deprive your kid from the much needed attention, and so cut down on these activities or try and involve your kid in your weekend meets so that they can also enjoy with you and your friends. Give a little responsibity to your husband too in turns to take care of your kid, that way you can destress and also know that your child is in safe hands.

A holiday twice a year with family is also a good techinique to boost energy back into your life . Shopping is also a stress booster but not a very logical solution, cause it will cost your pocket. May be window shopping could be better or may be buying something inexpensive for yourself and your kid could cheer you both up.

I hope these tips are helpful to those who want to destress from their hectic motherhood lifestyle.

    Encourage reading

I know you must have heard many people telling you about encouraging your child to read books, but not always your child is interested to read. Bring them varieties of books ranging from cartoons to super hero magazines, or encyclopedias with lots of pictures or just plain magazines or newspaper. Do not force them to read a particular genre of books, take them along when you are shopping for books. Choosing books on their own will not only give them a sense of responsibility, but also teach them to have an independent thought process. I remember my parents used to encourage us to read all kinds of books, and that was what helped us to build a good vocabulary.

You are not making a nerd out of your child, so give them a chance to go out and play with other kids. Have a set time of say half an hour or an hour with books, which is enough to nurture their minds. Keep things simple for them, do not have strict rules on when and how much to read, if you force them to do something which they do not want to do at a point, they will eventually loose interest. Reading is something which is a good thing but too much of it will keep kids away from the real world, so be happy with how much ever your kid is enjoying books. All the best to all the mothers, please do not forcefully make a novelist out of your kid, have patience and may be he / she will eventually be one if they love reading.

      You Tube to our rescue

I had never imagined before having a kid, how busy I would become with house work being a full-time mom, and still left with no time for my kid. I wanted to spend time with her and teach her most of the rhymes and alphabets and numbers. That is when I discovered the power of the internet and my laptop. Whenever I am busy with chores, I simply login into youtube, and open the playlist for my daughter ranging from hindi children songs, english nursery rhymes, videos by cullen, videos of elmo, mickey mouse, dora etc. The playlist is very vast and keeps my daughter entertained along with teaching her the ABC's , twinkle twinkle little star, itsby bitsy spider, how to ride her tricycle etc. What more do I want, I am free to do my work, and my daughter though not going to a play school yet, is well versed with most of the nursery rhymes taught at school.

My point is be innovative in what you expose your child to. Children like a routine, so keep in par with schools at home and maintain a similar schedule so that when your child starts to go to school she will not resent it but enjoy it. Why waste time and money buying videos when you can give her a more wider variety on youtube. I hope all the mothers will like this idea of keeping kids busy.
